Ewing, NJ – Stockton University (12-6) played tough defense for three periods but allowed a fourth-quarter score and dropped a 1-0 defeat to The College of New Jersey (12-5) on Wednesday afternoon. The No. 3-seeded Ospreys were eliminated from the NJAC Tournament with the loss to the No. 2-seeded Lions.
Freshman Stella Devlin (Millville/St. Joseph's Academy) and sophomore Meghan Phillips (Somers Point/Holy Spirit) combined for four of the nine shots for Stockton on the day.
The Ospreys had an opportunity early in the fourth quarter when Maura Somers (Berlin/Eastern Regional) had a shot turned away on a defensive save 37 seconds into the final frame. Just over three minutes later, a shot was saved by Delfina Vanelli (Galloway/Cedar Creek), but the rebound went to Jadyn Huff, who scored the eventual game-winner.
Somers, Olivia Catalano (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson), Abby D'Arcangelo (Egg Harbor Twp./Holy Spirit) and Madison Stillwell (Shamong/Seneca) were solid on defense in front of Vanelli, who made a career-high 11 saves in net.
The Ospreys ended the season with 12 wins, their fourth consecutive season with 10 victories or more. With only four seniors on the roster, the squad has a bright future in front of them.
