Sovereign Avenue School welcomes new principal at open house

“The start has been strong, and as a brand-new principal, I thought it was especially meaningful for me to come in and meet and connect with the families,” Bridgers said.

Bridgers, a former Atlantic City Board of Education member, began her career in education as a fourth-grade teacher at Pennsylvania Avenue School.

This year’s theme at Sovereign Avenue School is “Bloom Into Excellence.” Bridgers told families that the school’s students are like seeds that educators will nurture as they grow, thrive and reach their full potential. Families participated in raffles and connected with community organizations, including Atlantic City Recreation, Atlantic City Health and Human Services, Atlantic City Youth Services, the Boys & Girls Club, Stockton University's Goals Gear Up Program, and the Atlantic City Free Public Library.

Bridgers encouraged parents and guardians who could not attend the open house to remain involved throughout the school year.

“Stay involved, stay connected and build that relationship with the school,” Bridgers said. “I have an open-door policy, and families can always come to me for support. I’m here for them.”

Superintendent of Schools Dr. La’Quetta S. Small said Bridgers’ commitment to collaboration and family engagement will help Sovereign Avenue School continue building a culture in which students can succeed.

“Dr. Bridgers brings experience, enthusiasm and a genuine commitment to the children and families of Atlantic City,” Dr. Small said. “Her emphasis on strong family and community partnerships reflects our district’s belief that students flourish when schools and families work together. I am confident that, under her leadership, the Sovereign Avenue School community will truly bloom into excellence.”
