Brighton Avenue School open house welcomes families

Acting Principal Tracey J. Allen said students and their parents were excited about the new school year.

“We had a great turnout,” Allen said. “Many families have had students here before so they are familiar with the building.”

Allen, who served as the school’s vice principal last year, introduced herself to families in her new role as acting principal. Parents and guardians also met teachers and learned about classroom procedures, academic goals and schoolwide expectations.

Allen said Brighton Avenue School is focused on improving academic achievement and working with families to address chronic absenteeism. Community organizations also set up information tables to help connect families with available resources.

“The parents are always excited, and they’re grateful to meet the teachers,” Allen said.

Brighton Avenue School hosted the first of Atlantic City Public Schools’ open house sessions for the 2026–27 school year. Other schools in the district have also scheduled open house sessions.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. La’Quetta S. Small said open houses help build the strong partnerships between families and educators that students need to succeed.

“Our families are essential partners in the education of our students,” Small said. “Open houses give parents and guardians an opportunity to meet our educators, understand the expectations for the school year and learn how we can work together to support strong attendance and academic achievement. We are grateful to every family that joined us at Brighton Avenue School and demonstrated its commitment to student success.”
