County administrator Jerry Del Rosso retires after 52 years

“It is difficult to find a more honest, hard-working and effective public servant than Jerry Del Rosso,” stated County Executive Dennis Levinson. “He has been my county administrator since 2005. Jerry is highly respected inside and outside county government. We are all better as a result of his management and leadership. He has left an indelible mark and has contributed greatly to Atlantic County’s success.”

In May, Del Rosso was recognized by the New Jersey Association of Counties with the County Administrator Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual conference in Atlantic City, “for his lifelong and unwavering dedication to public service and for always being a kind, thoughtful, and resourceful gentleman.”

Del Rosso joined Atlantic County in 1974 after earning his bachelor’s degree from Villanova University. He went on to receive his master’s degree from Rutgers University.

He started his career with the county in the Department of Social Services. Del Rosso steadily rose through the ranks to become department head in 1991. In 1993 he took over the reins of the Department of Human Services.

In 1995 he was promoted to deputy county administrator and became involved with capital development and served as the lead for several county initiatives. Ten years later he was appointed county administrator where he was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of county government, which is comprised of seven departments and approximately 1,700 employees.

Del Rosso grew up in Atlantic City and was a recognized multi-sport athlete. He and his wife Lynn raised their family in Northfield where he remains today.

“Jerry is beloved by all,” added Levinson. “He is one of the finest people I have the pleasure to know. He has a brilliant mind and a caring heart. We wish him all the best.”
