ATLANTIC CITY -- Texas Avenue School welcomed families for its open house on September 17, 2026, which also served as back-to-school night, giving parents and guardians an opportunity to connect with school leaders, teachers and staff as the new school year begins.
During the event, families toured the school, visited classrooms, learned more about expectations for the year and gathered important information to help support student success. The evening also highlighted the school’s commitment to strengthening communication between home and school.
Principal Lina Gil said back-to-school night plays an important role in creating a strong foundation for students and families.
“Back to School Night serves as an important milestone in creating a successful school year by building family-school relationships, establishing expectations, promoting communication, and providing parents with important school information,” Gil said. “It gives families an opportunity to see the learning environment, meet the administration, teachers, and staff, ask questions, and see how they can become active partners in their child's education.”
Superintendent of Schools Dr. La'Quetta S. Small said the home and school connection is invaluable.
“When families feel welcome in our schools, it opens the door to meaningful conversations about what their children need to succeed,” Dr. Small said. “We want our parents and guardians to ask questions, share their perspectives and stay connected throughout the year. Texas Avenue School’s Back to School Night helps establish those relationships from the start.”
The open house helped reinforce Texas Avenue School’s focus on collaboration, communication and shared responsibility as staff and families work together to support students throughout the year. Various community organizations set up tables to let families know what resources are available in the community.
“I hope that families take all of the information that was shared, during back-to-school night, to realize the importance of families and educators working together from the beginning and the importance of parents becoming active partners in their child's education,” Gil said.
