CRDA sets public hearing date on Atlantic City rooming house proposal

Cape May County officials called for bids for a resurfacing project on Corson's Tavern Road in Dennis and Upper townships. Sealed bids are due 2 p.m. April 2 in the County Administration Building, 4 Moore Road, Crest Haven Complex, Cape May Court House.

Atlantic City officials are set to demolish a handful of blighted properties after an investigation by the Department of Licensing & Inspections found they are "unoccupied, unsafe, unsanitary or unfit for human habitation or use and poses a danger to the health and safety of persons on or near the premises."

Hearings have been scheduled for property owners to present testimony.

Atlantic City Council is going to vote on an ordinance that would install speed humps on select city-owned roads. The ordinance is going to be considered for final passage after a public hearing 5 p.m. March 18 in Hank Tyner Council Chambers, Room 208, City Hall, 1301 Bacharach Blvd.

The South Jersey Transportation Authority called for bids for water main service upgrades to the Atlantic City Expressway. The project includes transfer of water services and connections from the existing 4-inch HDPE water main to the existing 6-inch (fire service) metallic water main, construction of the proposed meter pit and backflow preventer hot box, select relay of proposed 6-inch water main with mechanicals and other work. Bids will be read 1 p.m. March 18 in the administration building, Farley Service Plaza, Atlantic City Expressway milepost 21.3.

Hammonton Board of Education officials called for bids for a project to replace two natural turf fields with artificial turf. Work includes the installation of a field underdrain, additional storm sewer improvements, installing artificial turf, relocating the existing asphalt path and associated improvements. Bids will be read 10 a.m. March 3 in the Conference Room in the Samuel A. Donio Memorial Library, Hammonton High School, 566 Old Forks Road.

Egg Harbor City officials are hosting a public information meeting about the construction of 5-foot wide bike lanes in both directions along two miles of Philadelphia Avenue from Diesterweg Street to Egg Harbor City Lake and Campground. Construction would include new signage and striping, stormwater swales and minor roadway widening along Philadelphia Avenue. The meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Feb. 13 at the municipal building, 500 London Ave. 

Northfield officials are looking for a tenant to lease a property with an existing cell phone tower at 1600 Shore Road. Interested tenants can submit answers to a list of questions located in the public notice to mcanesi@cityofnorthfield.org or make a presentation at a council meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. March 10. 

Members of the Linwood Board of Education are seeking bids for security vestibule renovations. Work must be completed by the 2020-2021 school year. Bids will be read 10 a.m. Feb. 19 at Belhaven Middle School, 51 Belhaven Ave.

Ventnor officials called for bids for a sanitary sewer main replacement project on Dorset Avenue. Bids will be read 11 a.m. Feb. 19 in the municipal building, 6201 Atlantic Ave.

Avalon officials called for bids for a sanitary sewer system improvement project on 21st Street and First Avenue. The project includes replacing the sanitary sewer. Bids are due 10:30 a.m. Feb. 14 to the borough treasurer, 3100 Dune Drive. 

Buena Vista officials called for bids for an addition to the township's Public Works building. The work includes construction of an approximately 5,250-square foot addition, as well as demolition and removal of the existing structure. Bids are due 11 a.m. Feb. 19 to the township clerk, 890 Harding Highway.

Hammonton officials called for bids for a bike path extension project. Work includes extending the exisiting bike path as well as drainage improvements along the extension. Bids are due 10 a.m. Feb. 19, when they will be read in Council Chambers, 100 Central Ave. 

Buena Vista officials called for bids to construct an addition to the township's public works building, 430 Union Road. The addition will be approximately 5,250 square foot and the work includes demolition and removal of existing structure, site preparation, construction of addition, renovation of existing structure, site improvements as needed and other miscellaneous items as required. Bids are due 11 a.m. Feb. 19. to the township clerk's office.

The South Jersey Transportation Authority is calling for bids for a resurfacing project on the Atlantic City Expressway. The project includes resurfacing several westbound sections of the roadway, including both shoulders and resurfacing to the existing concrete median barrier and steel beam guide rail. Work areas include the Interchange 9 off ramp and on ramp, Interchange 12 off ramp and Interchange 14 on ramp. Bids will be read 11 a.m. Jan. 23. 

Hamilton Township officials are calling for bids for a resurfacing project on Cantillon Boulevard, called the Hamilton Township 2018 Local Freight Impact Fund Cantillon Boulevard Pavement Preservation. Bids are due 10 a.m. Feb. 6. 

North Wildwood officials called for bids for a construction project on East 22nd Avenue between Surf Avenue and the Boardwalk. Work includes street and utility reconstruction to include replacement of sanitary sewer mains, storm drainage improvements and ADA complain curb ramps. Bids will be read at 2 p.m. Jan. 8 in the city hall courtroom, 901 Atlantic Ave.

City officials called for bids for a sewer replacement project on Roosevelt and Sheridan boulevards. Work includes inlet and manhole casting replacements as well as new sanitary manholes and pavement. Bids are due 11 a.m. Jan. 16 in council chambers, 1417 West Brigantine Ave.

A Texas Roadhouse is the newest addition to the Oak Tree Plaza on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township. The developer’s website does not list an opening date for the restaurant chain. 

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is working in several municipalities in Atlantic County to mitigate flooding through the Flood Mitigation Assistance and Pre-Disaster Mitigation grant programs.

Cape May County officials are calling for proposals for construction engineering services for the Woodbine Oceanview Road and Dennisville Petersburg Road Roundabout.  Bids are due by 2 p.m. Jan. 14, when they will be read in the county administration building, 4 Moore Road, Crest Haven Complex, Cape May Court House.

Avalon officials have called for bids for a project to repair the 21st Street bulkhead. The work, to be completed over 60 days, includes construction of 40 linear feet of vinyl/timber bulkhead, one five-foot bulkhead return and one 10-foot bulkhead return, the removal of existing piles, wales, and sheeting, stormwater outfall removal and replacement, landscape restoration and site restoration. Bids will be read at 10 a.m. Dec. 10 at Borough Hall, 3100 Dune Drive. 

Cape May County officials announced the start of a project to reconstruct and repair the Ingram’s Thorofare Bridge on Wednesday, advising drivers to take care during the almost two-yearlong project.

Officials have entered into an agreement with South State Construction for the repairs along Avalon Boulevard linking Middle Township and Avalon, according to a news release from the county’s Freeholder Board. The work is scheduled to be completed in two phases ending in June 2021.

The Atlantic City Council is having a public hearing 5 p.m. Friday for an ordinance that would establish a 8½-foot minimum bulkhead elevation for new construction along the bay. The ordinance was first read Oct. 16.

The South Jersey Transportation Authority is calling for bids for a rehabilitation project for Bridge 28, the McGahn Bridge, which links the Atlantic City Expressway to with Atlantic City's streets. Tasks include reconstruction of the existing fender and dolphin system, installing riprap around exposed underwater pier footings and concrete repairs. Also included in the contract plans are repairs to the boat ramp near the Atlantic City-Brigantine Connector. Bids will be read 11 a.m. Nov. 21 at the authority's administration building at the Farley Service Plaza. 

Officials in Northfield are calling for bids for general repairs and construction of sanitary sewer and stormwater facilities. It's an on-call, two-year contract for repair projects, emergency and general repairs. Bids are due 3 p.m. Nov. 21 at City Hall, 1600 Shore Rd. 

Officials in North Wildwood are calling for bids for renovations to the city's beach patrol headquarters.The contract includes labor, equipment and materials needed to gut the structure, remove decks and ramps and install a new roof as well as new mechanical, electrical and plumbing, among other projects. Bids will be read at 2 p.m. Nov. 13 in City Hall, 901 Atlantic Ave. 

Officials in North Wildwood are calling for bids for labor, equipment and materials to repair and replace concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters and concrete pavement in the city. Bids will be read at 2 p.m. Nov. 6 in the City Hall Court Room, 901 Atlantic Ave.

Officials in Hamilton Township are calling for bids for the demolition of 142 Knights Bridge Way, a home off Babcock Road. Sealed bids will be opened and read in public at 10 a.m. Nov. 1 in the municipal building.

Officials in Cumberland County broke ground on a new telecommunications tower Oct. 9 in Commercial Township as part of the county’s emergency communications system upgrade. The tower will be used for emergency, public safety and other governmental communications, according to a news release from officials.

A new Chipotle Mexican Grill is opening in Manahawkin, according to the company’s website. The restaurant, which is currently putting a call out for applications for its crew, will be located at 385 Martin Truex Jr. Boulevard.

Land in Ocean City that has been approved to hold a condo-hotel has been listed for sale online.

The site of the Soleil Resort, in a redevelopment zone at 11th Street and Ocean Avenue, has all approvals to develop a hotel and space with 103-107 keyed rooms that range from studio to one- and two-bedroom condominiums, according to website Loopnet.com. The webpage has information on traffic and nearby public transportation, but does not list a price.

The South Jersey Transportation Authority has called for bids for elevator rehabilitation and sewer projects at the Atlantic City International Airport in Egg Harbor Township.

The Schindler elevator, constructed in 1996, needs upgrading work done to the its interior finishes, door (car and hoistway) finishes, a new stainless-steel ceiling with lighting, a new car operating panel (C.O.P), new hall stations and cleaning and buffing of the elevator jambs. Mechanically and electrically, the elevator will require new spring mounted roller guides, new hydraulic pistons seals and new code compliant hoistway lighting and GFCI power.

Land at 501 E. Jimmie Leeds Road in Galloway Township sold in May for just more than $1 million, the township confirmed. The new owner is Village Super Market. However, no construction permits have been pulled as of yet and there have been no applications submitted to the township’s planning or zoning departments.

The governing body on Oct. 16 adopted a $2.2 million bond ordinance for improvements to the Eighth Street jetty. Improvements include engineering and design work, surveying, construction planning, preparation of plans and specifications, permits, bid documents, construction inspection and contract administration, and all work, materials, equipment and labor. The project will also appropriate $2.3 million, including a grant expected to be received from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The ordinance was first read Sept. 25. 

Officials in Mullica Township called for bids for reconstruction work on River Drive to include approximately 150 tons of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavement construction work along 1,000 feet of roadway. 

Bids will be opened and read 10 a.m. Oct. 23.

Construction has begun on new housing in the Hamilton Green development in Hamilton Township. Called The Glades, the 220 new units will be built adjacent to the 416 existing apartments and will extend out toward Cologne Avenue.

Officials in Brigantine called for bids for a reconstruction project on West Beach Avenue, consisting of the installation of handicap curb ramps between 13th and Sixth streets. Bids will be read 10 a.m. Oct. 10.

A new Dollar Tree store is expected to open later this year in the city. The store will be added to the Tanger Outlets The Walk at 1010 Atlantic Ave., according to a news release from R.J. Brunelli & Co., LLC, the real estate brokerage company which handles Dollar Tree leases.

The discount store will go in the former Hanes space, taking up the 9,576-square-foot store, according to the release.

Bids for Wildwood Crest’s New Jersey for the Solar Power Purchase Agreement will be read at 10 a.m. Sept. 26 in the borough’s municipal building, located at 6101 Pacific Ave. Bid documents and drawings for the proposed work, which have been prepared by DeBlasio & Associates, P.C., are available at the office of said Engineer at 4701 New Jersey Ave., Wildwood, and may be inspected by prospective bidders during business hours.

The Pleasantville Board of Education is calling for bids for temporary heating and cooling systems at the North Main Street School. Bid forms, specifications and contracts are on file at Remington & Vernick Engineers, 845 North Main St., Pleasantville. Bids will be read 11 a.m. Sept. 17.

Work is slated to begin Monday on New Jersey American Water's $1.2 million project to replace aging water main and upgrade water lines in Northfield and Linwood. 

City officials in Absecon are calling for bids for the construction of a new firehouse. Bid forms, contracts and specifications will be available starting Sept. 10 at Remington and Vernick Engineers, 845 North Main St., Pleasantville. A pre-bid meeting will be held Sept. 12 in the Absecon municipal building, 500 Mill Road. The deadline for bids is 11 a.m. Oct. 10

Night roadwork on Route 55 in Cumberland, Salem and Gloucester counties started Sept. 4 and will continue Monday through Thursday for the next few weeks, according to the state Department of Transportation. It’s part of a $17.2 million federally-funded pavement preservation project that aims to improve safety and reduce maintenance costs.

The project contractor, South State, Inc., will close one lane of traffic for milling and paving.

Town officials are calling for bids for roadwork on 14^th Street. The project consists of reconstruction and resurfacing a 550-foot portion of the street from the Folsom Bough boundary. The deadline is 10 a.m. Sept. 12.

Cape May County Freeholders are seeking bids for deck reconstruction on the Ingram's Thorofare Bridge in Middle Township. The deadline is Sept. 19. 

The state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is asking for bids for the demolition a shed on the site of the Atlantic City Armory, 1008 Absecon Blvd. The organization will be accepting bids until 10 a.m. Sept. 4.

The Rod and Reel in Brigantine, 13th Street North, is set to be demolished. It has been vacant since an inspection after Hurricane Sandy in 2012 found that the electrical work was old and too out of code to open.

Permits have been issued and the utilities have been disconnected, but the exact date of the demolition has not yet to be announced.

Egg Harbor Township is getting $2.9 million worth of improvements to their roads through the end of the year, half of which funded by grants.

Blackman Road from Poplar Avenue to Ocean Heights Avenue will be paved through a $290,000 New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund grant.

An application to demolish the old 7-Eleven at 3728 Atlantic-Brigantine Boulevard to make way for five townhome units in two separate structures is going before the Brigantine Planning Committee. The applicant is asking for a variance to permit townhomes in the commercially-zoned district. The applications also seeks a variance for the rear yards, which would be 6 feet instead of the required 15 feet; a variance for 76% lot coverage where the maximum is 60%; and a variance for a building height of 35 feet when the requirement is 30 feet, in addition to other variances.

A public hearing was scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 28.

The Stone Harbor Zoning aboard approved construction of a parking lot and three docks for The Reeds at Shelter Haven Hotel  on July 1.

Brigantine City Council eliminated provisions in its city code establishing a parking lot for heavy-duty trucks and RVs on municipal property.

A permit application was submitted to the state Department of Environmental Protection for a South Jersey Gas Co. project that would install a natural gas line under Route 9 in Dennis Township, between Clermont Drive to Hagen Road and from Main Street to School House Lane. The public is invited to comment on the proposed project until Sept. 30.

Mullica Township officials called for bids for construction of a parking pad and sidewalk at the Elwood Fire Hall and reconstruction and reconfiguration of an existing accessible ramp to the township's municipal building including a new curb ramp to the parking lot and re-striping the existing parking spaces.

Distinctive Car Toyz has sought relief from the Egg Harbor Township Planning Board so they can build new a car sales, services and customization facility at 2800 Fire Road. They requested variances for the minimum lot size, parking space setback from building and the maximum area for free-standing signage, as well as approval for 24 parking spaces.

The variances were approved at a public hearing held on Aug. 19.

The Atlantic County Freeholder Board last month adopted an ordinance that authorizes the acquisition of rights of way and temporary construction easements for the reconstruction of the Nacote Creek Bridge in Port Republic.

City officials in North Wildwood are calling for bids for the restoration of utility trenches, include milling the existing asphalt surface two inches in depth, sweeping, cleaning, hot tacking the surface, construction of two inches  thick HMA surface course and hot applied rubberized joint sealing the surface joints.

Officials are also bidding out for a project to repair and replace concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters and concrete pavement, as necessary within the city.
