We asked the owner Mike Ovens some questions to get to know him a little bit more. Here are some of the answers.Â
What put the 'X' in One Stop Xteriors? (Can you explain the origin of your business name)
I wanted to do something different as when I was deciding a name one stop interiors or one stop exteriors so I got rid of in and ex and replaced it with an x for interior and exterior.
When did you start One Stop Xteriors?
I first opened in 2015, so this is my seventh year in business.
How does being a family-run business impact your work?
As a family business we put an emphasis on balancing life and work so that I am able to be there for my daughter and future child. That goes for my team as well. We support each other so that we are able to do the highest-quality work, while also having the flexibility to be present for our families.
What sets One Stop Xteriors apart?
We strive to be the best. We are perfectionist. I consider myself a craftsman and approach each job with a great deal of pride.
What does curb appeal mean to you?
Curb appeal is another name for eye candy, haha. It’s not about function, it’s about looking good. But, that doesn’t mean it’s not important. When you have a home that looks good, you feel good.
Top 40 Under 40... What's it like being a young entrepreneur?
I was very honored to receive the Top 40 Under 40 Award. Starting a business was not easy. It took a lot of hard work. I started from scratch. So to have all of that hard work and sacrifice recognized felt very good.
What's your crew mean to you?
My crew is my extended family. We are a team, we share the same values, and take great pride in our work.
If you could only have one tool, what would it be?
Hammer. Everyone should have at least a hammer in their tool kit. It’s versatile and comes in extremely handy, especially for decorating your home.
What is one home maintenance skill everyone should learn?
Everyone should learn how to change a door lock. If your have a screwdriver, it’s surprisingly easy. It’s a good skill to have and it can save you some money.
What’s your favorite room in a house?
The kitchen. It’s beautiful. The family gathers there. Food is prepared there. And, I love all of the woodwork and cabinetry.
