Daily Mike Trout update: Gets 3 hits, including 6th HR in 11 games, in win over Rays

Mike Trout, 23, an outfielder with the Los Angeles Angels, is the reigning American League Most Valuable Player and a 2009 Millville High School graduate.

Thursday: Went 3 for 5, including a double and a home run, with two RBIs and a run scored in a 6-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. His home run was his sixth in his past 11 games. He hit the solo shot off Alex Colome with one out in the sixth inning. He batted second and played center field.

Friday: The Angels will open a series at home against the Oakland Athletics at 10:05 p.m. Jesse Chavez (2-6, 2.51) is scheduled to start for the Athletics. Trout is hitting .364 (4 for 11) with two home runs and five RBIs against Chavez.

Quotes: "We had great at-bats one through nine," Trout said Thursday in an Associated Press story after the Angels got 14 hits to earn only their second victory in the eight games. "It was fun to watch, fun to be a part of it. That's how we need to be every night."

Stats: Trout is hitting .292 (66 for 226) with 17 home runs, 45 runs scored and 36 RBIs in 60 games. He has stolen eight bases on 11 attempts. His on-base percentage is .376.
