The girlfriend of Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy says she wants a misdemeanor case against him stemming from a domestic dispute dismissed. The woman made the request during his court appearance Friday, a day after he was arrested for allegedly locking some of her and their baby's belongings in his car. She said she didn't feel threatened and made contact with authorities to “monitor the situation." Jeudy's lawyer says the incident shouldn't have been treated as a domestic violence case. Colorado law defines domestic violence both as physical violence and any other crime that is aimed at intimidating, coercing or seeking revenge against an intimate partner.
Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was arrested on a misdemeanor charge after a dispute with his girlfriend at their suburban Denver home. According to a police report submitted to the Arapahoe County court, Jeudy’s girlfriend told a deputy that Jeudy put her wallet and medical paperwork for their infant child in his car at their home so she could not get them. She said she wanted to go back to Virginia but could not leave without those belongings. Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown said at a news conference that Jeudy was cooperative during his arrest and that there was no physical violence involved in the incident.
A a psychologist has testified that actor Amber Heard suffered post-traumatic stress disorder from violence, including sexual violence, she suffered at the hands of her ex-husband Johnny Depp. The psychologist told jurors Tuesday at Depp’s libel trial that there is corroboration of many of the instances of abuse, including apologies and admissions made by Depp to Heard. Hughes is the first witness to take the stand on Heard's behalf in the four-week trial after Depp rested his case earlier in the day. Depp sued for libel after Heard wrote a newspaper op-ed piece on her experience with domestic violence.
Johnny Depp’s agent says that ex-wife Amber Heard's 2018 op-ed piece in The Washington Post describing herself as a victim of domestic abuse was “catastrophic” to Depp's career and coincided with the loss of a $23 million deal for a “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel. During cross-examination Monday, Heard’s lawyers pushed back aggressively on agent Jack Whigham’s assertions. Heard's lawyers suggested the Post article was inconsequential amid a stream of bad publicity for Depp brought on by his own bad behavior. Depp is suing Heard for libel in a Virginia court, saying her article defamed him when she described herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.”
An Associated Press analysis has found that Mississippi has long operated in violation of national standards for death investigations, accruing a severe backlog of autopsies and reports. Autopsies that should take days take weeks. Autopsy reports that should take months take a year or longer. Too few pathologists are doing too many autopsies. Some cases are transferred hundreds of miles to neighboring states for reports without their family’s knowledge. Records sent to AP in April show the office was waiting for about 1,300 reports from as far back as 2011. That leaves criminal cases incomplete. The public safety commissioner hired in 2020 is working to whittle down the backlog and says it's his top priority.

In April 2020, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee signed the Tiffany Hill Act into law, named after a Vancouver mother who was murdered by her estranged, abusive husband. The law allows courts to order people accused of domestic violence to wear GPS ankle devices, which can be monitored by officials and linked to an app on the victim’s phone, alerting them when the offender is nearby. Two years later, most Washington courts are not using that option. The exception is southwest Washington's Clark County where more than a dozen offenders are being monitored. King County also has taken steps to begin using the software.

The NFL and The National Domestic Violence Hotline have renewed their partnership for three years through a grant from the league. An agreement with RALIANCE also has been extended. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. For more than eight years, the NFL has provided financial support to The Hotline in its mission to shift power back to those in the United States affected by relationship abuse. The Hotline is the only national, 24-hour, year-round resource for survivors offering services via call, chat and text. RALIANCE was created in 2016 to unify the national sexual violence field to better support victims and survivors.
