Smith, Dante Lamar , - of Hammonton, NJ, departed this life suddenly on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 in Somerdale, N.J. Dante attended Mullica Township Public Schools where he played youth basketball. He attended Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing, NJ, where he was an award winning weightlifter, a member of the Oakcrest track and field team, and played Offensive and Defensive for the Oakcrest Falcons football team. Dante also served as Team Captain before he graduated in 2011. Dante moved to Salisbury, Maryland after high school to attend Salisbury University where he worked towards his degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and helped the Salisbury Seagulls football team to earn two State Championships. While working toward his degree, Dante worked as Supervisor of Security at Mackies in Ocean City, Maryland and also as part of the security team at Perdue in Salisbury, Maryland. Dante later began working as an Educational Assistant at Wicomico County Middle School and was most recently employed as an Instructional Assistant at Somerdale Park School in Somerdale, New Jersey. Dante loved teaching and mentoring children and he had a deep passion for the game of football. He combined these two passions and began coaching football. He was Head Coach and JV Offensive Line Coordinator of the Parkside High School Rams football team in Wicomico County, Maryland as well as Special teams Coordinator for the Washington High School Jaguars football team in Somerset County, Maryland. Dante was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Lucretia Bell and Thelma Smith; and his grandfather William H. Smith Sr. He is survived by his parents Dominica Bunch-Smith and William Howard Smith Jr. of Hammonton; three brothers, Howard LaQua Smith of Atlantic City and Jonathan and Marcus Smith of Hammonton and great-grandmother Estelle Brooks of Atlantic City, N.J. and his godparents, Rick and Ria Overton; his girlfriend Yolanda Hargrove of Salisbury, Maryland; two dogs Bella and Coco, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday February 10, 2018 at Heaven's Way Baptist Church, 5082 Tremont Avenue, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234. Viewing will be from 9-11 and service will be held at 11 am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, New Jersey.
