LOWER TOWNSHIP — Police on Friday released the names of two women who died after a head-on car crash this week on Ocean Drive.

Corinne M. McDevitt, 35, of the Villas section of the township, and Linda M. Greenfield, 68, of West Cape May, both died after the two-car crash, police said.

The crash happened about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, police said in a news release.

McDevitt was driving north on Ocean Drive when she veered over the double yellow line and “slammed head-on” into a vehicle driven by Greenfield in the southbound lane, police said.

Greenfield was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

McDevitt was unconscious and trapped inside her vehicle, police said, but was extricated by members of the Erma Volunteer Fire Company.

After she was out of the vehicle, AtlantiCare paramedics and members of the township Rescue Squad tried to revive her but were unsuccessful, according to the release.

Police said it is unclear why McDevitt veered into oncoming traffic.

Township police and members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating.
