9-year-old Atlantic City girl injured in shooting

ATLANTIC CITY — Police are investigating after a 9-year-old girl was shot in her foot Thursday night.

At 10:22 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 500 block of Indiana Avenue to an alert from the city’s gunshot-audio detection system, according to a news release from city police. When they got there, officers found that multiple gunshots had been fired inside a home.

Police did not release the name of the girl, but said that while the cause of the injury is unknown, officials believe it to be a gunshot wound or from fragmentation of a bullet.

The girl was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, for treatment.
