ATLANTIC CITY — The city has given a green light for Tropicana Atlantic City to build a skyway to the former Chelsea Hotel.

The City Council approved a resolution Wednesday night granting air rights over Morris Avenue so the casino hotel can build a bridge to its recently acquired hotel at 111 S. Chelsea Ave., The Chelsea Tower at Tropicana Atlantic City.

“The bridge will provide convenience for our guests to easily access the south tower check-in and experience all of Tropicana’s amenities that are only just steps away,” said Tony Rodio, president and CEO of Tropicana Entertainment Inc.

“The project, which is still in the planning phase and subject to certain regulatory approvals, is anticipated to begin in late 2017 and be completed by early 2018,” he said.

The new Chelsea Tower gives Tropicana 2,730 rooms in 20 oceanfront stories.

In May, IEP Morris LLC, a subsidiary of Icahn Enterprises, acquired the mortgage for the closed Chelsea Hotel, according to the Atlantic County clerk’s property records.

It was unclear how much Icahn paid for the mortgage.

Icahn Enterprises is a part owner of the Tropicana.
