Hundreds race in annual Lake Lenape Triathlon in Mays Landing

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — Nearly 200 athletes participated in the annual Lake Lenape Triathlon on Saturday in Mays Landing, an event that began in 1991.

The event included sprint and Olympic duathlons, sprint and Olympic triathlons, and an aquabike race. Each race started at Lake Lenape Park East and ended at Lake Lenape Park West.

Tom Lennon, 38, of Ridgewood, Bergen County, was the first to cross the finish line in the Olympic Triathlon.

“I really enjoyed the race today,” he said. “The director did a great job ensuring a safe and scenic course. The roads were in great condition with limited vehicle traffic, so it made for a great event. The weather also helped make the event fun. It was such a beautiful morning to be out there. I was happy with my race, and I hope to make it back next year to defend my title.”

Despite living in North Jersey, Lennon spends a lot of time in the area as his in-laws live in Egg Harbor Township. “I cycle and run on the area roads quite a bit, so this race feels like a hometown race for me,” he said.
