Asbury United Methodist Church is hosting a chicken barbecue 3-7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5 at the church, 290 Asbury Road. Take-out orders available starting at 1 p.m. Air conditioned dining hall opens at 3 p.m. Cost is $12 per ticket and includes half of a barbecued chicken, homemade baked beans, corn on the cob, macaroni and cheese and dessert. 26th annual Special Tournament of Fishing
EHT Parks and Recreation will offer the 26th annual Special Tournament of Fishing for children with special needs and their families. The program will be held Thursday, Aug. 10. Any Egg Harbor Township child who is physically or mentally challenged may register. Each participant must bring an adult chaperone for the day. The fishing trip will consist of four hours of fishing followed by an awards ceremony and dinner. Pre-registration is required. The fishing trip meets at Starfish Boat in Sea Isle City. Designer bag bingo
The Farmington Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a designer bag bingo 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 at the fire hall, 301 Maple Ave. Presale tickets are $35 per person. Tickets sold at door are $40. The Egg Harbor Township Environmental Commission is hosting an an outdoor art show, themed "Natural Art Exhibit" 4-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the arboretum at the Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve. Egg Harbor Township High School Green Team is holding Community Farmers Markets 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the school. More than 20 vendors participated in July market. Event is free. The Community Partnership for Egg Harbor Township Schools Inc. is partnering with the Rotary Club of Somers Point and Egg Harbor Township High School’s Project Graduation to host a cash raffle fundraiser that will pay out $25,000 just in time for the holidays. Raffle tickets are $50 each. Only 2,000 tickets will be sold. Three drawings will take place at Doc’s Place in Somers Point. All ticket holders are eligible for all three drawings. The first drawing for $2,000 will be held Oct. 25; the second drawing for $3,000 will be held Nov. 29, 2017; and the third grand prize drawing of $20,000 will be held Dec.20, 2017. Winners will be contacted via phone or email and will be announced through Facebook and media outlets. Dollar amounts are based on all 2,000 tickets being sold. Proceeds benefit Project Graduation. EHT Parks and Recreation will offer a new baton twirling program. Instructor will teach the skills and techniques of baton twirling in a fun and friendly atmosphere at the community center, 5045 English Creek Ave. The program will be held on Tuesday evenings, July 25 –Aug. 29. A session for beginners is held 6:30-7:30 p.m., and a session for advanced participants runs 7:30-8:30 each night. The program fee is $50 for residents, $55 for nonresidents. Call 609-272-8120.
Kindergarten registration open
The Egg Harbor Township School District is accepting kindergarten registrations. Call 609-927-4141, ext. 1234, for information or an appointment. Required items include shot records, original birth certificate, mortgage statement, tax bill, utility bill, or current lease if renting, and valid driver’s license. Only the legal parent or guardian can register a child. Custody papers are accepted if the legal guardian is not available. Children must be 5 years old on or before Oct. 1, 2017. See eht.k12.nj.us.
