Oakcrest graduate in long jump finals at Olympic trials

Shameka Marshall is one step closer to the Olympics.

The former Rutgers University and Oakcrest High School graduate advanced to the long jump finals on Monday and will continue her journey tonight.

To make the Olympic team, Marshall, a former All-American, must finish in the top three to qualify and hit the Olympic standard of 6.73 meters. She recorded a leap of 6.40 to qualify sixth and advance to today's final at Haywood Field in Eugene, Ore.

Marshall in no stranger to international competition. She recently competed for Team USA at the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil and took seventh. More
