The Atlantic City Convention Center announced Tuesday that it is receiving a $1.5 million grant toward the construction of a wind turbine that would generate electricity for the building.
Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority officials do not know exactly how much power the turbine would generate. Construction and installation is expected to cost about $3.4 million, they said in a statement.
The convention center already gets a significant portion of its electricity through alternative energy. Earlier this year, the center started using solar power to provide more than a quarter of the building's electricity. The center currently has the largest single roof solar installation in the country.
The total duration of the wind turbine project is expected to be about 16 months, according to Tuesday's statement.
