ATLANTIC CITY - The city's deadline to accept bids for a 143-acre city-owned parcel passed Tuesday with no offers, city officials confirmed.
Since the city put Bader Field, the city's shuttered airport, on the market in October, the land has attracted no formal offers.
Resort leaders and hired consultants have attributed the lack of interest to the recession. On Jan. 14, a day before the first bid deadline was set, the city opted to extend the deadline to June 30, hoping the national economy would rebound and financing would be more readily available.
Mayor Lorenzo Langford, who has chosen to remain silent about prospects at Bader Field, said through a spokesman this week that he would discuss the site in more detail today. Langford told The Press during his re-election campaign that he had spoken to two gaming developers with interest in developing the site, but apparently wanted to avoid the previous bid process.
Langford's office did not say whether the mayor would reveal which developers have interest in the site, but one official in his administration said specifics were not likely.
