A Long Beach Island health department official confirmed today that home medical waste, including 20 syringes, washed up along the island's beaches Sunday night.

The debris was found along eight miles of beach from Barnegat Light to Surf City.

Officials said they did not release information about the incident earlier because the waste was cleaned up by Monday morning. No more waste has been found, the official said.

Tim Hilferty, director of the Long Beach Island Health Department said making a public release about the debris " didn't even cross my mind."
