Overnight patrols cut at Camden County parks

Police patrols at 22 Camden County parks are being cut.

Starting last weekend, all officers working from midnight to 8 a.m. were moved to the day shift, when county officials say parks are busier and crime is more prevalent.

The one exception is Lakeland, a 600-acre complex with a hospital and juvenile detention center in Gloucester Township. The mayor and police chief there are actively opposing the move, so the county is temporarily continuing overnight coverage.

Local police chiefs say they can't afford to cover the gaps and say they weren't consulted before the decision was made. More
