Bad news: Caesars Atlantic City will close one of the most underappreciated, fun and best restaurants in the city this month when Bacchanal shuts its doors after its Sept. 12 service.
Known for its all-inclusive, Roman feast, Bacchanal has been a mainstay at Caesars since 1984. Over the last few years, Caesars didn't promote the restaurant like it promoted its others. And to employees' dismay, diners who tried to make reservations were often told no reservations were available, despite the fact that the room had empty tables most nights.
Thirteen employees will be laid off. Spokesperson Alyce Parker said those employees "can apply for open positions throughout the other properties or at any Harrah's owned property."
Bacchanal's unique concept offers a prix-fixe dinner for $64.99. Diners receive a shared appetizer of cheeses, fruit, shrimp cocktail and more. Diners then choose a soup, then salad, entree and dessert.
While the food is excellent, the real draw at Bacchanal is the tableside massages, music by the strolling Michael Kraft Trio and attentive service that includes tableside flambe desserts. Even the pouring of wine, which is included in the price, is done in a theatrical fashion.
Parker said that Caesars has no plans for the Bacchanal space right now.
My advice: Go check out Bacchanal before it closes and enjoy a truly original dining experience that is a super place to go for parties and special occasions. The Atlantic City Hilton tried to close the doors on Peregrines' last year, but customers urged management to bring the restaurant back, and it returned in the spring. If customers get loud enough, maybe it could happen for Bacchanal, too.
The restaurant is open Fridays and Saturdays through Sept. 12. Call 609-348-4411 for reservations. Walk-ins also accepted.
