Dear Consumer Action:
In November 2008 I purchased two gift cards from my financial institution. One was lost, and I reported it to the card company immediately. That was in January.
Under the terms of the cardholder agreement, it states I can get a lost or stolen card replaced for a $5 fee, as long as I have the card number. I have been repeatedly told by the card company that a refund is coming, but it has never arrived. - P.S., Linwood
The general manager of your financial institution has now intervened, at our request, and is making sure you get a replacement card.
He said the company acknowledged you have called four times about a replacement, without success, and has promised to have this resolved for you in 24 to 48 hours.
Call for cards
Dear Consumer Action:
On Dec. 4, I purchased an Acme gas rewards card, paying $35 plus $3.95 shipping and handling. I was supposed to get a $50 gift card for purchasing gasoline.
I have never received any correspondence or the gift card. - A.B., Somers Point
We are asking consumers who have not received $50 gas rewards cards from the company administering the program, Mpell Redemption Center of Columbus, Ohio, to call Acme's Customer Information Center at 877-932-7948.
An Acme spokesperson said $50 store cards will be sent to everyone still awaiting the gas cards, and that its customer center operators are familiar with the situation and can take all necessary information to get the store cards to consumers.
Please let us know how Acme handles the requests through the CIC number, and if you have any problems getting the store cards in the future.
Consumer Action will respond to each properly submitted letter about a problem or question, either in this column or by letter or phone. Letters must include copies - not originals - of all relevant documentation and a name, address and phone number at which you can be reached. Send letters to: Consumer Action, The Press, 11 Devins Lane, Pleasantville, NJ 08232.
