McNabb's new deal

The Eagles just made Kevin Kolb a backup quarterback for at least 2 more years.

By agreeing to add at least $5.3 million to the final two years of Donovan McNabb's contract, the team essentially guaranteed that Kolb won't get a chance to prove himself until at least 2011.

And it may take longer than that. If McNabb plays at an elite level in 2009 and 2010 - or more importantly leads the Birds to a Super Bowl title - he'll be around for at least five more years.

If Kolb is feeling antsy now about spending another year holding a clipboard - he admitted as much during the recent minicamps - just think of how he'll feel about being McNabb's caddy for the foreseeable future.

Actually, they probably won't happen. Like McNabb, Kolb is also scheduled to become a free agent after 2010. If McNabb is still around, Kolb will undoubtedly try to find his way onto another team.
