With the onset of summer undoubtedly comes thrill-seekers - those who want to be jostled, hurled, shaken around or sent down a slippery slide. The shore has a wide variety of boardwalk-side amusement parks to please every taste, thrill level and locale.

One park, with roots in the late 19th century, looks to the past for its newest ride. At Atlantic City's Steel Pier, small children, up to 10 years old, can hop into The Red Baron, a new ride a ride featuring aircraft reminiscent of "the old World War I byplanes," says Anthony Catanoso, president of the Steel Pier.

"A lot of our rides are what you would consider family rides," says Catanoso. Some of Pier favorites include rides that accommodate both parents and children, like the Ferris Wheel, Tilt a Whirl, and Disko, an Italian ride that seats visitors in big saucers that move back and forth on a half pipe. While not new, the Steel Pier's Crazy Mouse Roller Coaster, installed in 1997, remains another popular ride..

"People like coasters," says Catanoso. "I still think that's the ride of choice in most parks. They're usually the most high thrill." More
